GPS FOR THE BSAS RECOVERY WORKFORCE

GPS for Wellness and Recovery enhances engagement in care and supports wellness and recovery while ensuring an excellent, consistent, and evidence-based structure. GPS Support Groups provide people with trauma-sensitive spaces where they can explore their personal history with substance use, addiction, generational trauma, and feelings of shame, guilt, and isolation that can be barriers to all pathways of recovery. Participants build communities of mutual respect and reclaim their self-esteem and courage as they travel on the road to recovery. GPS for Wellness and Recovery groups can be led by peer leaders and clinical providers. These groups effectively increase program capacity, ensure consistent clinical outcomes, and enhance other modalities of care.

GPS is proud to partner with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health's Bureau of Substance Addiction Services to implement the GPS Group Model in substance use and addiction service programs across the state. The trauma-informed and welcoming structure of the GPS Model offers a consistent system of group care across diverse populations and settings.

GPS is integrated successfully in residential treatment, outpatient programs, methadone/suboxone clinics and more. Group participants represent a diverse range of populations, including individuals of all genders, parents, people who are unhoused, currently or formerly incarcerated, mandated for treatment, and engaged with child protective services. GPS can be used in programs and with participants who enlist multiple pathways to recovery.

" I was a mom struggling with addiction, attending lots of treatment groups. But GPS was my missing piece. It gave me back my self-respect, helped me maintain sobriety, and made me a much better mom. I now lead GPS groups for moms working on their recovery"

-Erica Napolitan, Maternal Substance Use and Recovery Specialist

"What I love about GPS is its structure and adaptability. We can use curricula for the people we serve while maintaining the structure of GPS. It is a trauma-informed model that we use in all our groups now."

-Debra Bercuvitz, Director, Perinatal Substance Use Initiative,

MA Department of Public Health
